The Rev. Colin Mathewson, Pastor
The Rev. Colin Mathewson graduated from Valhalla High School in East County, San Diego and Stanford University with a degree in Urban Studies. He's since served as a campaign manager, community organizer, press assistant, executive assistant, foundation program officer, and as a volunteer in El Salvador before starting seminary in 2010.
He and his wife Laurel graduated from The School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee in 2013 and served together as deacons and priests at St. Paul's Cathedral until becoming vicars-in-charge at St. Luke’s Episcopal in North Park. Colin is continuing in his role as pastor for the St. Luke's Congregation. He and Laurel have two kids who keep them busy and laughing, and Colin enjoys sports, cooking, eating, and reading.
Julian Sanchez, Bishop's Warden
Julian was born and raised in National City. He graduated from Sweetwater Union High School, then served in the Air Force Reserve before joining the U.S. Coast Guard. He currently works at General Dynamics NASSCO.
Julian's spiritual growth is deeply rooted at St. Matthew's, where he was baptized by The Rev. Juan Acosta and grew up serving as an acolyte and musician. Julian and his wife Judith, are high school sweethearts and were married in 2003 at St. Matthew's by The Rev. Patricia Andrews-Callori. They have 3 beautiful children; Isaac, Mia and Ezekiel.
Rachel Ambasing, Ministry Coordinator
Another San Diego native, Rachel also grew up attending St. Matthew's. She has fond childhood memories of reading books in the church courtyard while not-so-patiently waiting for her mother and father to be done with their vestry meetings, which lasted "like, forever."
As an adult, Rachel worked in retail management and visual merchandising for several years, before moving to San Francisco to study at Academy of Art University, where she gained experience in event coordination, and writing and design for multi-media. In 2015, Rachel returned home to San Diego, and to St. Matthew's.
